It’s always sad when celebrities pass away. It’s even more tragic when they are taken before their time. Matthew Perry’s passing, aged just 54, saw Friends fans mourn across the world — yet he’s not the only celebrity to pass away recently. To remember their names and celebrate their achievements, we’ve compiled a list of actors, musicians, and other stars who’ve departed to the great stage in the sky.

Tina Turner

On May 24th, 2023, the world lost legendary singer and powerful female icon Tina Turner. She peacefully passed away after an illness at her home in Switzerland, aged 83. Born Anna Mae Bullock, she began her singing career in 1958, and she shot to fame in the 1960s as half of the popular band Ike and Tina Turner.

She had to overcome a terribly toxic relationship with her husband. Then, she proved she was “Simply the Best”, performing for over seven decades as the undisputed Queen of Rock ‘n Roll.

Tony Bennett

After serving in World War II, Tony Bennett became a jazz, pop, and big band singer. He released his first number-one single, “Because of You”, in 1951 and famously performed “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, and many more tunes across a star-studded career that warmed the hearts of millions.

Tony last performed with his friend Lady Gaga in 2021. He passed away at his home in New York City on July 21st, 2023. His family said he kept singing to the end, and his last song was “Because of You”.

Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters was an iconic American broadcast journalist and television personality. Born in 1929, the Boston native broke the glass ceiling of broadcast journalism. Beginning her career in the 1950s, she made history by becoming the first female co-anchor of a network evening news program when she joined ABC News in 1976.

Barbara’s career spanned seven decades until 2015, during which time she interviewed dozens of world leaders and celebrities. She passed away at the grand old age of 93 on December 30th, 2022.

Tom Sizemore

Aptly named larger-than-life actor Tom Sizemore was famous for his roles in such films as True Romance (opposite his doppelganger Chris Penn), Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, and Heat. He was also a member of the Hollywood rock band Day 8.

A controversial figure, Sizemore faced many battles, struggled with illicit substances, and often found himself in trouble with the law. These included a famous incident with his one-time fiancee, former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss. Tom passed away on March 3rd, 2023, aged just 61.
